The City Of Madinah Countless Blessings For The Holy Guests

The City Of Madinah

Madinah Munawarrah “the progressive city” position as the second most holy place in Islam after Makah. It is the city that gave safe haven to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the early Muslims upon their relocation from Makah and where lies the funeral place of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The city of Madinah was firstly known as Yasrib, a refuge city dating as far back as the 6th century BCE. Throughout the war between Jews and Romans in the third century CE, a lot of Jews fled Jerusalem and migrated to their inherited place of Yasrib which is present Madinah. Nero sent a huge Roman force under Petra Lenidas to Madinah to slaughter the Jews in 213 CE. A group of people survived and by the time the Prophet (peace be upon him) had migrated there was a large Jewish occurrence around the city.
The Jews were excitedly waiting for the arrival of a prophet (peace be upon him) who, according to their scriptures, would appear in Madinah. They used to insult the local Arabs that when he did turn up, according to their prophecies, the Jews would destroy the pagans as the very old people of Aad and Thamud had been destroyed for their worship. In spite of this, there were some Jews who embraced Islam, most particularly Hussain bin Salam, one of their most educated Rabbis. The Prophet (peace be upon him) changed his name to Abdullah bin Salam. About a year before the migration, the Prophet (peace be upon him) had dispatched Musab bin Umair (R.A) on a mission to transmit Islam (Tableegh) to the citizens of Madinah. A lot of the Ansar became Muslims at his hands.

Madina is 210 miles (340 km) north of the Makah. At the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Madinah had been just about the size of the present masjid and the nearby white tiled area. Narrated Anas (R.A): Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) returned from a journey and observed the walls of Madinah, he would make his rise go fast, and if he was on an animal he would make it bolt because of his love for Madina. The Prophet (peace be upon him): “For the believer, Madinah is the greatest place. If only they could understand its good worth completely, they would never leave it, and whoever departs from Madinah, having become disappointed with it, Allah will send someone enhanced to replace him. And whoever bears patiently the ordeals of Madinah, for him shall I be an intercessor (or witness) on the Day of Qiyamah.” (Muslim) It is declared in another hadith: “There will be no town which Ad-Dajjal (the anti-Christ) will not enter except Makkah and Madinah, and there will be no entrance (road) but the angels will be standing in rows guarding it next to him, and then Madinah will shake with its inhabitants thrice and Allah will expel all the nonbelievers and the hypocrites from it.” (Bukhari) relate Abu Huraira (R.A): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Verily, Belief returns and goes back to Madinah as a snake returns and goes back to its hole (when in risk).” (Bukhari)
